Calendly launches AI meeting note-taker and assistant to automate post-meeting tasks

Note-taking and meeting transcription have become central features in the productivity software landscape, and Calendly — known for its scheduling and meeting-booking tools — is now launching a note-taking product. The new tool will join meetings, record audio and video, and produce a transcript.

Features and target users

After capturing and transcribing meetings, Calendly’s note-taker can generate summaries, extract action items, and draft follow-up emails. The company said it is also testing a Granola-like capability that uses system audio to transcribe meetings.

Calendly is additionally developing an AI assistant called Callie that leverages the company’s existing meeting and scheduling stack to set up meetings, check participants’ availability, and surface context from prior meetings. CEO Tope Awotona said the aim is to automate workflows for top users who spend much of their day in external-facing roles, such as sales and marketing professionals frequently booked with meetings.

Competitive landscape and opportunity

The space is highly competitive. On one side are specialized meeting note-takers such as Granola, Fireflies, Read AI, Otter, and Fathom; on the other are broader productivity platforms like Notion, ClickUp, and Wispr that have added note-taking assistants to their suites. Awotona argues that while many services do a solid job recording and transcribing, the larger opportunity lies in automating the follow-up work that happens after transcription — turning notes into actionable workflows.

Privacy and participant notifications

With some companies in the sector, including Otter and Granola, having faced privacy-related allegations, Calendly says its note-taker will actively inform participants that a meeting is being recorded. The assistant sends a message in the meeting chat announcing its presence and activity, and any user can ask the app to leave the conversation. Thanks to integration with Calendly’s scheduling system, the tool can also notify people before a meeting starts that the call will be recorded.

Availability

Calendly has not provided specific release dates or pricing details. Public information indicates the note-taker and the Callie assistant are under development and testing, and they will integrate with Calendly’s existing meeting and scheduling ecosystem to automate post-meeting tasks.
