Honda announced that it will make Google Gemini, Google's next-generation AI assistant, available in its models equipped with Google built-in. The upgrade will be offered on selected Civic, Accord, Prelude, CR-V, Passport and Pilot models, enabling more natural, hands-free voice interactions.
Google Gemini is an evolution of Google Assistant: it can sustain more complex, continuous conversations and retain context across multiple questions and answers. That allows drivers to issue requests in a more conversational way without having to use precise commands or repeat previously given information. The system continuously improves, better recognizes complex requests, asks clarifying questions when needed, and can handle multi-step instructions.
Jessika Laudermilk, vice president of sales operations at Honda National Auto Sales, summarized the change: “For Honda customers, connected technologies are no longer just conveniences but a fundamental part of the driving experience. Integrating Google Gemini reflects our commitment to offering technological solutions that make every trip more comfortable while helping our customers stay informed, connected and make the most of their time.”
In practical terms, the change replaces rigid command formats with natural speech. Where drivers previously had to say something like, “Hey Google, find a nearby restaurant for lunch,” with Gemini they can speak more naturally: “Hey Google, I want to grab something to eat. Find good taco places along the way! When does [place name] close? Okay, let’s go there!” Because Gemini understands context and conversational phrasing, the in-car experience becomes smoother and more intuitive.
Honda is also introducing Gemini Live, which raises in-vehicle voice assistance to a new level. Drivers can start an ongoing, natural conversation with the assistant by saying, “Hey Google, let’s chat!” Gemini Live helps with vehicle-related tasks but also supports planning a weekend trip, finding family activities, summarizing the latest news, or brainstorming for an upcoming meeting. The feature is intended to help Honda drivers stay informed, organized and productive while on the road.
Overall, Honda says that integrating Google Gemini and Gemini Live into its Google built-in models will deliver a more personalized, convenient and safer driving experience by letting drivers keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel while interacting with a context-aware AI assistant.
