A Europion survey conducted on June 22, 2026, with 1,600 respondents shows that most Hungarian workers do not consider their roles immediately replaceable by artificial intelligence (AI). Among those currently employed, 49% say their job is not replaceable at all and a further 33% say it is rather not replaceable. Only 18% feel their work could be at least partly replaced by AI.
Age and job-type differences
Confidence is particularly high among workers over 50 and those in physical jobs: in these groups 86–87% do not feel their jobs are at risk. By contrast, white-collar workers and people in managerial positions are more pessimistic: in these segments more than one in four employees believe their role could be replaced.
When asked about timing, 66% of respondents said their job is not threatened by AI at all, and another 16% think any such change would occur only after more than five years. Younger respondents are noticeably less reassured: among 16–29 year-olds only 53% said their job would not disappear due to AI.
Managers are the most likely to expect disruption: 54% of those in leadership roles believe their jobs could disappear because of AI, and 23% of them think this could happen within 1–2 years. Among non-managerial staff, only 31% expect job elimination, and 16% of them expect it to happen after more than five years.
By type of work, 44% of knowledge workers think their role could vanish, compared with 32% of physical workers. In sector terms, employees in state and public services feel the safest: only 16% of them consider their positions threatened by AI.
AI use at work: prevalence and frequency
Overall, 42% of workers use AI to some extent at work. Daily use is reported by 14% and weekly use by 11%. Usage varies sharply by age: 65% of 16–29 year-olds use AI at work to some degree, while among those over 50 the share is around 30%.
AI use is highest in high value-added service sectors — for example IT, scientific activities and communications — where 65% of employees use AI and nearly one third (32%) use it daily. Low value-added service sectors (such as hospitality and logistics) show much lower usage at about 30%. State and public service workers report 41% usage, and industry and agriculture workers report 51%.
Perceived efficiency gains
Respondents are mixed on how much AI increases work efficiency: 44% say it yields small gains, 35% say medium gains, and only 17% believe AI delivers a significant efficiency boost.
There are geographic and sectoral differences: 27% of those working in the capital report significant improvement, compared with only 9% in villages. In industry, agriculture and low value-added service sectors only 12–13% of workers report significant gains.
A notable paradox is that although older workers have the lowest AI adoption at work, they are comparatively more likely to attribute significant efficiency gains to AI: 23% of those aged 60+ report a major improvement, versus 15–17% among younger cohorts.
Main uses of AI at work
The single most common use is information gathering: 50% of AI users employ it for this purpose. Other frequent uses are text generation (36%), translation (34%), document editing (25%) and e-mails/communication (24%).
In high value-added sectors AI is used for a wider range of tasks: 63% use it for information gathering, 46% for translation and 37% for e-mailing and communication.
Methodology
Europion collected the data on June 22, 2026 via mobile and web application data collection. The sample included 1,600 respondents; results are representative of the Hungarian population aged 16 and over by gender, age group, education, settlement type and region. Small percentage differences between the sample and the population were corrected by weighting, with respondents' different digital activities taken into account in the weighting procedure. The survey’s margin of error is 2.5%, meaning reported percentages may differ by at most that amount from results that would have been obtained if the entire Hungarian population aged 16+ had been surveyed.
