Meta has acquired Conductor, a startup focused on agent-based coding workflows that lets teams spin up parallel workspaces to advance software projects. Axios first reported the deal, and Conductor confirmed the acquisition on its own blog.
Announcement and leadership comments
Charlie Holtz, founder and CEO of Conductor, wrote on the company blog: “I have big news: Conductor is joining Meta.” He added that the company has “big, crazy plans for the next interface,” and teased that customers would see “something new” by “early next year.”
On X, Holtz said he looks forward to working with Alexandr Wang, Meta’s chief AI officer, and Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta’s Superintelligence Labs. He praised the teams’ recent momentum and said he believes MSL has the highest talent density of all the labs.
Meta confirmed the acquisition to TechCrunch but declined to provide further details such as deal terms or strategic specifics.
What Conductor builds and how it works
Founded in 2024, Conductor launched its core product just last summer. The platform deploys agentic teams that can run in the cloud, on-premises, or on a user’s phone; these teams are intended to let software engineers work concurrently on separate, compartmentalized parts of a project.
Conductor’s deployed agents are not exclusively developed in-house: the platform uses models from major AI labs, including Anthropic and OpenAI.
Service timeline and user data
Holtz said Conductor’s core features will continue to operate as before until early next year, with one exception: Conductor’s cloud service will shut down on November 20, after which the company will begin deleting users’ cloud data.
Context: Meta’s push into AI developer tools
Meta has been trying to catch up in AI services and developer tooling. In August the company launched Muse Code, its own coding agent, and the broader Muse agent lineup has seen strong adoption; Meta recently reported that Muse surpassed 10 million users. The Conductor acquisition follows several other AI-related purchases by Meta over the past year, including the viral agent platform Moltbook.
Why it matters
The acquisition expands Meta’s capabilities in agent-based workflows and developer-focused AI tools. For Conductor users, the immediate impact includes the planned shutdown of the cloud service and subsequent data deletion, while for Meta the deal adds another component to its growing generative AI and coding-tool portfolio.
