Meta has started rolling out Pocket, an experimental AI-driven app for creating small interactive games, to all users in the United States. The app previously launched quietly last month in Brazil as a test market. Pocket lets people generate short, touch- and tilt-responsive experiences using AI prompts; those creations appear in a scrollable feed.
What Pocket does
In Pocket, Meta calls the short interactive creations “gizmos.” Gizmos can respond to touch and the tilt of a phone, play sound effects, and include clips of music. Users can also incorporate photos from their camera roll or allow the app access to the device camera, enabling more personalized content.
Created gizmos can be shared on a user’s profile, where others can save them, remix them into new creations, or repost them.
Origins and Meta’s broader app strategy
Pocket builds on Meta’s acqui-hire earlier this year of the team behind the vibe-coded gaming platform Gizmo. Its launch follows a series of recent standalone mobile products from Meta, including the Meta AI app for generating images and the experimental Vibes app for AI videos.
On a July earnings call, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that AI-enabled software development has made it faster to test and ship new ideas. He referenced several recent standalone launches — Instagram Instants, Forum (a standalone Groups app), and Seller (a standalone Marketplace app) — and said the company plans to build more ideas and use recommendation systems to scale them.
Meta has also experimented with an AI bedtime-stories product and recently released a Meta AI app for Mac.
Retirement of an earlier acquired app
With Pocket’s launch, Meta is shutting down the original app it acquired from Atma Sciences. Josh Siegel, the founder associated with Gizmo, posted on Twitter on August 20, 2026, noting the end of Gizmo and reflecting on the experience of starting and running the company.
Why it matters
Pocket illustrates how major tech companies are embedding generative AI into consumer creative tools and seeking to make AI-driven content creation mainstream. By enabling quick creation, sharing and remixing of interactive experiences, Meta aims to accelerate experimentation and distribution of new products. At the same time, the decision to retire an acquired app highlights how consolidation and internal product development often lead companies to fold overlapping services into new initiatives.
