According to Bloomberg, Midjourney — the AI lab best known for its LLM-powered image and video generation — has acquired the social astrology app Co‑Star. The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.
Co‑Star reportedly has about 4.3 million monthly active users. The app is mainly used for creating personal astrological birth charts that users can share with friends within the platform. Co‑Star produces horoscopes, compatibility analyses, and other advice based on users’ astrological data, relying on a combination of artificial intelligence and human writers.
Around two dozen Co‑Star employees are joining Midjourney as part of the acquisition. Given that team’s experience building consumer-facing apps, the acquisition could help Midjourney develop a standalone mobile app — today the company’s services are largely accessed via its Discord server rather than through a dedicated Midjourney application.
The purchase fits into Midjourney’s broader product expansion. Beyond generative image and video tools, the company has signaled interest in moving into other areas such as a medical arm and spa-like services. Adding an astrology app to its portfolio appears consistent with that diversified approach.
Why this matters
The deal shows Midjourney is extending beyond creative generative AI into consumer services. Co‑Star’s user base and the expertise of its staff provide strategic assets if Midjourney decides to pursue a standalone consumer app or deepen its reach into lifestyle and wellness-oriented offerings.
(Bloomberg reported the acquisition; the companies did not release additional transaction details.)
