Oct 8, 2026 — Anthropic announced it will commit $150 million spread over three years to the Genesis Mission, a federal program aimed at accelerating scientific and technological discovery using artificial intelligence. The company said the funding will expand access to its Claude models across more than 15 federal agencies participating in the mission, including NASA, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the National Science Foundation (NSF).
The announcement was made at the Science: A New Golden Age Summit hosted by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy in Washington, DC. Anthropic noted that it first announced its partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the Genesis Mission in December of the previous year, and has since worked with DOE to make Claude available to scientists at the national laboratories.
What the three-year commitment includes
Anthropic outlined several concrete elements of the pledge:
- Provide Claude, Claude Code, and API credits to several hundred Genesis Mission research projects.
- Partner closely with federal agencies and national laboratories on the administration’s top science priorities, including fusion energy and quantum computing.
- Offer training, onboarding, and technical support to scientists working on Genesis Mission projects.
- Help agencies new to the Genesis Mission stand up their first projects.
Context: Anthropic’s prior science initiatives
Anthropic framed this new commitment as part of a broader effort to support scientific research. Earlier in the year the company launched Claude Science, an AI workbench that integrates commonly used tools and packages for researchers, and opened 10,000 free and discounted Claude seats for academic scientists. It also expanded its AI for Science program, which provides credits to researchers on high-impact projects, and started a research preview of the Model Hardware Standard, a shared specification intended to enable AI agents to operate lab instruments safely.
According to Anthropic, the $150 million Genesis Mission pledge is the next step in helping researchers across federal agencies and national laboratories leverage AI to advance scientific work.
Why this matters
The commitment increases access to AI tools and operational support for a large number of federally supported research projects and targets priority areas identified by the administration. The announcement aligns with the administration’s Science: A New Golden Age agenda, which emphasizes accelerating scientific discovery through AI. Anthropic’s involvement represents another instance of private-sector support intended to bolster government-led scientific initiatives in the United States.
