Anthropic, the artificial intelligence company, announced a $65 billion capital raise in an H round, bringing its valuation to $965 billion. The financing round was led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks and Sequoia Capital.
Surpasses OpenAI as highest-valued AI startup in Silicon Valley
With this latest funding, Anthropic has overtaken rival OpenAI to become the most valuable AI startup in Silicon Valley. By comparison, OpenAI closed a record $122 billion fundraising at the end of March, which valued that company at $852 billion.
Rapid revenue growth and new model releases
Anthropic’s revenues have expanded sharply in recent months; its annualized revenue has reached $47 billion. That figure was $30 billion at the start of the year and $10 billion last year. The company attributes much of the growth to Claude Code, an AI-powered coding assistant.
Coinciding with the funding announcement, Anthropic unveiled new models: Claude Opus 4.8 and Claude Mythos Preview, the latter offering advanced cybersecurity capabilities and currently available only to selected customers.
Market context: IPO preparations across the AI sector
The fundraising comes as leading AI developers move toward public listings. SpaceXAI — formed from the February merger of SpaceX and an AI startup associated with Elon Musk — filed its IPO paperwork with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission last week. OpenAI is also reported to be preparing confidential IPO documentation and could potentially debut on the stock market as early as September. CNBC has reported that Anthropic has begun preparations for a public listing as well, although its timeline remains fluid.
