Bloomberg reported that Anthropic has agreed to a six-year, $10 billion contract with Volta, an AI cloud startup founded earlier this year, under which Volta would supply cloud compute for the maker of the Claude models.
The report cites anonymous sources familiar with the arrangement. Volta had previously acknowledged talks with an AI lab but did not disclose the partner’s name. TechCrunch contacted Anthropic for further comment.
According to the report, the capacity will be provided from a data center in Norway developed in partnership with Bitdeer, a crypto-mining company. The facility is said to offer 133 megawatts of capacity and will be powered by Nvidia’s Vera Rubin systems, referring to Nvidia’s latest AI chip architecture.
Volta is part of Nvidia’s Cloud Partner program, a consortium of AI cloud providers that deploy Nvidia GPUs in their data centers to support high-performance AI workloads.
The reported deal fits into Anthropic’s broader push to expand compute resources in recent months amid competitive pressure in the AI industry. The company has also announced new compute agreements with SpaceX and Amazon.
