Anthropic launches Claude Design, a visual-design assistant powered by Claude Opus 4.7

On April 17, 2026, Anthropic Labs announced Claude Design, a new product that helps users collaborate with Claude to produce visual work such as designs, prototypes, slides, and one‑pagers. The feature is powered by Anthropic’s most capable vision model, Claude Opus 4.7, and is available in research preview to Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers. Access is being rolled out to users gradually throughout the day.

What it does

Claude Design aims to give designers more room to explore and provide non‑designers—founders, product managers, marketers—a way to produce visual assets. Users describe what they need and Claude generates an initial draft; from there the asset is refined through conversation, inline comments, direct edits, or custom sliders that Claude creates. If granted access, Claude can automatically apply a team’s design system to every project so outputs remain consistent with company UI.

Teams have used Claude Design for:

  • Realistic prototypes: turning static mockups into shareable interactive prototypes without code reviews or PRs.
  • Product wireframes and mockups: product managers can sketch feature flows and hand them to Claude Code for implementation or to designers for further refinement.
  • Design explorations: quickly generating a wide range of directions for visual investigation.
  • Pitch decks and presentations: moving from a rough outline to a complete, on‑brand deck in minutes, then exporting as PPTX or sending to Canva.
  • Marketing collateral: creating landing pages, social assets and campaign visuals, then looping in designers to polish.
  • Frontier design: building code‑powered prototypes with voice, video, shaders, 3D and built‑in AI.

How it works

Claude Design follows a natural creative flow:

  • Your brand, built in: during onboarding Claude builds a design system for the team by reading the codebase and design files. Subsequent projects use the team’s colors, typography and components automatically. The system can be refined over time and teams can maintain multiple systems.
  • Import from anywhere: projects can start from a text prompt, uploaded images and documents (DOCX, PPTX, XLSX), or by pointing Claude at a codebase. A web capture tool lets users grab elements directly from their website so prototypes resemble the real product.
  • Refine with fine‑grained controls: comment inline on specific elements, edit text directly, or use adjustment knobs to tweak spacing, color and layout live. Then ask Claude to apply changes across the full design.
  • Collaborate: designs have organization‑scoped sharing. Documents can be kept private, shared as viewable via link to anyone in the organization, or granted edit access so colleagues can modify the design and chat with Claude together in a group conversation.
  • Export anywhere: share designs as an internal URL, save as a folder, or export to Canva, PDF, PPTX, or standalone HTML files.
  • Handoff to Claude Code: when a design is ready to build, Claude packages everything into a handoff bundle that can be passed to Claude Code with a single instruction.

Anthropic said it will make it easier over the coming weeks to build integrations with Claude Design so teams can connect it to more of the tools they already use.

Partner feedback included in the announcement

The announcement includes comments from Canva, Brilliant and Datadog. Melanie Perkins, Co‑Founder and CEO of Canva, said the company is excited to continue collaborating with Claude so drafts from Claude Design move seamlessly into Canva and become fully editable and collaborative. Olivia Xu, Senior Product Designer at Brilliant, said Claude Design’s ability to turn static designs into interactive prototypes has been a ‘‘step change’’ for them, reducing complex pages that previously required 20+ prompts in other tools to only 2 prompts in Claude Design. Aneesh Kethini, Product Manager at Datadog, said prototyping has become dramatically faster for their team — what used to take a week of back‑and‑forth now often happens in a single conversation.

Access and settings

Claude Design is available to Claude Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise subscribers. Access is included with those plans and consumes subscription limits; teams can opt to enable extra usage to continue beyond those limits. For Enterprise organizations, Claude Design is off by default and administrators can enable it in Organization settings.
