Mesh — the personal CRM and relationship manager acquired last year by Automattic, the parent company of WordPress.com — is now available on Android devices. The app is designed to let users privately visualize and track people in their personal and professional networks, add notes to contact records, and set reminders for when to reach out.
Android-specific features
Automattic tailored the Android release to take advantage of platform features. Mesh supports split-screen and pop-up views so users can access it while working in other apps such as messaging or email. The Android build also includes keyboard shortcuts for foldables and tablets, in-app search, real-time sync across devices, and home screen widgets that use Material You colors to match the device wallpaper.
Integration with Automattic’s ecosystem and Beeper
Automattic envisions tighter integrations between Mesh and its all-in-one messaging app, Beeper, which connects across platforms including WhatsApp, Instagram, Signal, Messenger, X, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, Google Messages and more. Mesh and Beeper already interoperate to some degree: Mesh users can draft texts to contacts via Beeper and open Mesh profiles through deep links inside Beeper.
AI features and Nexus AI early access
The company plans to add more AI-driven features to improve how people manage relationships across both products. Mesh currently offers Nexus AI in early access, enabling users to query their network using AI — for example, asking who they know at a specific company, who lives in a particular city, or who has expertise on a given topic. Automattic is also experimenting with voice-based, hands-free interactions and an improved business card scanning feature.
Privacy and pricing
Automattic says personal information stored in Mesh is not shared or used for ad targeting; the product is supported by subscriptions. Mesh is free for up to 1,000 contacts, with higher-priced tiers for unlimited contacts and additional features. The company may consider bundled subscriptions with Beeper or other Automattic products in the future, but there is no announcement on that front at this time.
Who is using Mesh?
About 70% of Mesh’s customers currently use the app for some kind of business purpose. Matthew Achariam, Mesh co‑founder, says the product’s sweet spot is executives managing larger teams or professionals with a compact network they need to stay in touch with. The company nevertheless continues to consider consumer use cases, designing features to be applicable for both business and individual users.
Co‑founder Zachary Hamed told TechCrunch earlier this spring: “We’re thinking a lot about how can AI help you be a better friend and have better work and personal relationships? We have users who have ten-, twenty-, or fifty‑thousand connections across multiple social media apps, across their work products. It’s an impossible task to think and be conscientious with you, with each of those people, by yourself.”
Availability
Mesh (formerly Clay) for Android will roll out on Google Play for phones, tablets and foldables as a free download with in‑app purchases.
