Amazon Web Services (AWS) has expanded its AI development assistant with a browser-based offering: Kiro, first introduced last December, is now available as Kiro Web with no installation required. The service is currently offered in an early access release to subscribers.
What Kiro is and how it differs from typical AI coding tools
Kiro reverses the typical workflow of AI coding assistants: instead of primarily suggesting code snippets, it assists from the very beginning of development. A developer describes the desired outcome in natural language, and the AI generates the necessary requirements, a development plan and a task list.
Kiro Web: all functionality in a browser
The main innovation of Kiro Web is that every capability is accessible from a single browser window, without local installation. The tool can act as a collaborative partner for developers, and in some cases can carry a task from idea to finished solution autonomously — always subject to human approval.
Security and permission controls
AWS emphasizes that Kiro, by default, requests permission before performing any action, and users can configure what steps the tool is allowed to take. Each task runs in an isolated cloud environment created for the session and deleted at the end of the session. The AI can access only the resources the developer has explicitly permitted. Sessions are isolated from one another so that one task does not affect another.
Parallel projects and personalization
The system can work on multiple projects concurrently while respecting a team’s working methods and development rules. AWS says Kiro will adapt over time to users’ habits, providing increasingly personalized assistance.
Purpose and availability
According to AWS, the aim of the development is to make the entire software development process faster, more transparent and more efficient through the use of AI. Kiro Web is currently available in an early access version for service subscribers.
