OpenAI has unveiled an "Ultrafast" mode for ChatGPT designed to accelerate its GPT-5.6 Sol model. According to the company, this mode increases the model's standard processing speed by about 14 times and can generate up to 750 output tokens per minute.
Intended use cases
OpenAI says the Ultrafast mode is intended for a range of enterprise workflows where speed matters, including incident response, customer support, and financial analysis. The company notes that the feature is currently available as a preview and plans to roll it out more broadly later.
Competitors and performance comparison
TechCrunch points out that competitors such as Anthropic have also released accelerated model modes. OpenAI claims that ChatGPT's Ultrafast mode performs faster than those alternatives; specifically, it states that Claude's accelerated mode does not reach the same speed.
Why this matters
Model latency affects which real-time or near-real-time tasks AI systems can handle. Reducing response delays that can span several seconds improves user experience and enables higher-volume, low-latency processing in enterprise contexts.
The Ultrafast launch for GPT-5.6 Sol is part of OpenAI's ongoing efforts to decrease model response times and expand business applicability. The mode is currently in preview and will be made available more widely in the future.
