Bluesky expands Attie AI with 'Quests' to research the open social web

Bluesky has added a new feature called Quests to its AI assistant Attie, enabling users to pose open-ended questions and research information and news circulating across the wider Bluesky social network—referred to as the Atmosphere. The Atmosphere includes not only Bluesky itself but any application that integrates the underlying AT Protocol.

What Quests does

Quests allows users to ask Attie to gather information about topics spreading on the network. Examples include pulling together data on trending subjects or identifying the most influential accounts within a particular field or location. Bluesky presents Attie as a utility to help users navigate the internet and counter misinformation by giving them tools to verify and explore information themselves.

Attie’s role and business context

Attie launched in March as a separate Bluesky product that enables users to design their own algorithms, create custom feeds, and potentially—later—‘vibe-code’ their own apps. The assistant is free for now, though the company has considered charging for the service.

The development of Attie is tied to Bluesky’s efforts to spur user growth and find revenue streams after a slowdown in recent months. The network’s user base doubled to 40 million last October within a year, but has since slowed; Bluesky now reports about 45.6 million registered accounts. The firm is exploring tools and services that could attract more users and monetize the platform.

Leadership and product roadmap

Jay Graber, who stepped down as Bluesky’s CEO in March and now serves as the company’s chief innovation officer, wrote that “Attie’s AI is a tool that helps you make sense of the internet, helping you fight back against the proliferation of misinformation and noise by giving you the tools to find the truth yourself.” She has been replaced as CEO by Toni Schneider, the former founding CEO of Automattic.

Graber also noted Attie is being redesigned to include accessibility features and a new logo, with further changes planned in the coming months.

Beta access, waitlist and funding

The updated Attie experience is currently in beta; users will be invited from a waitlist over the coming weeks. Bluesky said it raised $100 million in a funding round that closed in 2025, giving the company runway to experiment with projects like Attie and other potential services such as premium subscriptions or advanced tools for power users.

Community sentiment

While many Bluesky users are skeptical of AI for economic, political and environmental reasons, the company faces the challenge of balancing its community’s preferences with the need to generate revenue to sustain itself and the AT Protocol development it leads.
