OpenAI launches ChatGPT for Financial Services with GPT‑6 Astra and built‑in premium data

OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT for Financial Services, a tailored ChatGPT Work experience that combines frontier models with built-in premium financial data to support research, financial modeling, and customized client materials.

Partners and initial focus

The product was shaped through a design partnership with Morgan Stanley and Evercore. That collaboration helped OpenAI identify high‑impact problems for financial institutions and guided development toward solutions intended to assist bankers in everyday tasks. The company says the initial focus areas are investment banking and equity research, where reliable data access and high‑quality artifact generation were identified as major pain points.

Built‑in premium data and indexing

ChatGPT for Financial Services includes datasets from providers such as Daloopa, PitchBook, LSEG News and Crunchbase. These datasets cover earnings transcripts, financial statements, company fundamentals, private company information and more. OpenAI indexes and hosts this data on its infrastructure, which the company says improves retrieval, latency and enables features like granular citations so users can trace figures and claims back to specific tables or passages.

Granular citations are intended to let users inspect the reconciliation and notes behind figures (for example, an adjusted EBITDA), understand which costs were excluded, and verify supporting evidence as an analysis progresses.

Connectors, MCP optimization and ecosystem

OpenAI is working with S&P Capital IQ, LSEG, MSCI, Dow Jones Factiva and Moody’s on shared sign‑in and entitlement integrations so providers can recognize users through their ChatGPT sign‑in and enable automatic access to data they already are entitled to. The company also focused on improving managed connector platform (MCP) reliability for commonly used financial connectors, optimizing integrations such as S&P Global and FactSet for immediate use in the product.

The broader connector ecosystem includes more than 50 connectors, including Datasite, Box, Preqin and Intapp. OpenAI reports it has optimized connector reliability through automated evaluation and iteration.

GPT‑6 Astra: core capabilities

GPT‑6 Astra is available natively in ChatGPT for Financial Services. OpenAI states the model excels at three core capabilities important for financial work: information retrieval, financial reasoning and artifact generation.

According to OpenAI, GPT‑6 Astra can navigate and understand figures, tables and supporting notes in financial documents; take inputs, run financial analysis and draw conclusions; and accurately synthesize work into documents, spreadsheets and slides.

Workflows, templates and visualization

The product supports multi‑source research, tracing figures across periods and interpreting annotations in public data. After analysis, teams can build interactive charts and visualizations with underlying data and sources available for review.

Administrators can publish Excel, Word and PowerPoint templates via a dedicated admin page. With firm templates and style guides configured, teams can convert their analysis into valuation models, research notes and pitchbooks in the firm’s format.

Security, data protection and compliance

ChatGPT for Financial Services builds on ChatGPT Enterprise security and governance features including SAML SSO, SCIM provisioning and role‑based access controls. OpenAI says a firm’s business data is not used to train its models by default; data is encrypted at rest and in transit, and admins can configure workspace retention settings.

Compliance teams can export supported workspace logs through the OpenAI Compliance Platform into existing audit and investigation workflows. Firms can also create multiple workspaces to enforce information barriers and manage access to skills and apps by role, enabling or disabling supported app read and write actions.

Extensibility and customization

OpenAI notes that ChatGPT for Financial Services is one solution among many the company will offer to the finance industry. Financial institutions and developers can use the OpenAI API to build specialized applications tailored to their needs, while OpenAI supplies frontier models and infrastructure. Financial institutions, data providers and software partners contribute domain expertise, trusted information and customer relationships.
