The Magyar Közgazdasági Társaság will open the 64th Közgazdász-vándorgyűlés in Eger on 10 September 2026. The conference will begin with addresses by Varga Mihály, Governor of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, and Kármán András, Minister of Finance.
Attendance and format
Organizers expect roughly 700 economists to attend from across Hungary and from abroad. The two-day event features two plenary sessions and 16 on-site panel sessions.
Main topics
Sessions will focus on the principal challenges facing the Hungarian economy and economic governance. Several panels will examine the risks and opportunities associated with the use of artificial intelligence. Other highlighted topics include the state of public finances and the budget, issues around EU funding, the labor market, innovation and competitiveness, the banking system, and the effects of turbulent global political and economic developments.
Two panels during the conference will specifically address the question of introducing the euro in Hungary.
Speakers and participants
In addition to the finance minister and the central bank governor, the program includes two government state secretaries and three deputy state secretaries, the chair of the Költségvetési Tanács (Budget Council), the CEO of the Államadósság Kezelő Központ (Government Debt Management Agency), two deputy governors of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, prominent economic researchers and leading corporate and bank executives.
