Life‑sized AI hologram 'Bridget' debuts at LaGuardia Terminal B

A life‑sized, hyper‑realistic artificial intelligence‑driven hologram named Bridget has been unveiled at Terminal B of New York’s LaGuardia Airport to assist passengers with navigation and routine inquiries. The installation is not a classic free‑standing projection; Bridget appears within the terminal’s display system as a carefully lit 2D/3D render housed in a controlled cabinet.

What Bridget does

Bridget conducts conversational interactions with travelers and answers questions about boarding gates, baggage claim, and VIP lounges. She can draw a route to a gate, indicate where lounges are located, and summon a live map when needed to guide passengers.

Technology and operation

The hologram runs on Proto hardware and uses Holomedia’s AI Concierge Wayfinder application. Proto, a Los Angeles company, previously installed a non‑AI hologram inside Terminal 4 at JFK Airport. Currently Bridget speaks English and Spanish, with additional languages planned for the near future. The kiosk is fully accessible.

Intended role: augmenting staff, not replacing them

LaGuardia Gateway Partners (LGP), the private operator of Terminal B, says Bridget is deployed not as a replacement for human employees but as an operational reserve during peak periods. The hologram functions as a digital extension of the guest experience team, with its own character and presence, intended to reduce pressure on overburdened human customer‑service staff.

Where this is heading

Developers describe Bridget as an initial step: similar AI‑based, multi‑channel holographic assistants are being trialed at other airports and could extend the same conversational logic to mobile and web platforms. The deployments illustrate a shift in airport navigation from static signage and apps toward conversational digital helpers.
