ICON Real Estate Management has rolled out a set of complementary security technologies: a patrol robot dog, autonomous drone operations, continuous thermal-camera monitoring and AI-driven video analytics. These components are intended to raise the level of personal and asset protection across properties the company manages, while explicitly supporting — not replacing — human security personnel.
Robot dog: automated patrol and situation recognition
One element of the service is a four-legged robot that navigates preprogrammed routes autonomously. Beyond basic area checks, the robot uses posture-analysis systems to detect critical human situations such as an emerging physical altercation or a person who is on the ground or crouched, which may indicate a medical emergency. It also automatically responds to abnormal environmental sounds like glass breaking, shouting or calls for help, and can process alerts from other security systems such as fire detectors and access control.
The robotic hardware and the backend analytics are provided by technology partners, while ICON adapts the system to real-world conditions by defining patrol routes, operational logic and sensor tuning for each site.
Autonomous drone: day-and-night aerial surveillance
The company’s toolkit includes an autonomous drone system that can launch from base without human intervention and provide continuous aerial monitoring over large, hard-to-see logistics areas. The drone operates both day and night: a wide-angle camera gives an overview of the site, a zoom camera can read license plates, and an onboard thermal camera reliably detects human presence in darkness. A built-in spotlight, AI-assisted alarm logic and an onboard speaker enable rapid identification of intruders and immediate audio warnings to clear the area.
Thermal cameras: early warning for EV battery risks
Electric vehicle adoption creates new fire-safety challenges for parking structures and garages: thermal runaway in batteries can begin with localized heating without smoke or flame, leaving conventional detectors too slow to respond. The thermal monitoring system constantly analyses small changes in surface temperature and can detect early signs of overheating, distinguishing normal from abnormal temperature patterns. It can issue alerts before a critical state develops and, according to preset rules, even interrupt a charging process to prioritise prevention over firefighting.
Artificial intelligence and video analytics: over 150 event types recognised
The fourth pillar is a server-side AI video analytics solution that analyses camera feeds in real time and generates automatic alerts for suspicious or hazardous situations (attacks, accidents, physical conflicts, unauthorised entries, etc.). A key advantage is that the platform can be integrated with existing camera systems, avoiding the need for a full infrastructure replacement. The latest algorithms can recognise more than 150 different incident and behaviour types, and the AI can be continuously trained to identify new events and patterns.
