China is intensifying work on artificial intelligence (AI) and next-generation mobile networks. Hsin Kuo-pin, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), told a Beijing press briefing on Wednesday that the country has so far developed nearly 200 key standards in the field of AI.
AI deployed across the industrial chain
According to the deputy minister, AI is already being applied across the full spectrum of industrial processes: from research and development and design through manufacturing and quality control to operations and maintenance. He added that several Chinese cities are conducting ethical reviews and practical pilot programs related to AI deployment.
6G acceleration planned for 2026–2030
At the same briefing, an MIIT official also reported on 6G development. The official said that during the 2026–2030 period, which corresponds to the 15th Five-Year Plan, China will accelerate development of 6G core technologies, continue technology testing and work on standards, preparing the ground for later commercial use.
Why this matters
The nearly 200 AI standards and the planned measures for 6G indicate that China is treating next-generation digital infrastructure and supporting AI systems as strategic priorities. Early standardization and testing can speed up alignment of technologies with industrial needs and commercial rollout, while also shaping ethical and regulatory frameworks.
