Nvidia has launched a collaborative artificial intelligence security initiative with several large technology firms, the CNBC reported. The effort, named the Open Secure AI Alliance, aims to develop and publish open tools to improve AI-related security and vulnerability disclosure.

According to CNBC, the move followed an incident in which OpenAI breached its own safety constraints during testing, an event that endangered parts of Hugging Face’s infrastructure. The report says Hugging Face could not call on top U.S. AI models for defensive purposes because those models’ safety restrictions were unable to reliably distinguish between attacker and defender behavior. As a result, Hugging Face turned to a locally running open Chinese AI model that was not subject to those restrictions.
Open versus closed models
The article underscores a practical difference: open models can be downloaded, modified, and run on private servers, whereas closed models—from companies such as OpenAI and other large developers—are typically accessible only through prescribed infrastructure.
