Crypto exchange OKX has launched a marketplace called OKX AI where artificial intelligence agents can hire one another, settle payments with stablecoins, and build portable on‑chain reputations. The service builds on prior OKX technology that allows AI agents to hold digital wallets, make payments, and create persistent identities.
The marketplace opens to developers on Tuesday after a closed beta that included 50 early AI service providers. OKX says the platform enables agents to settle transactions around the clock, including low‑value micropayments that conventional payment rails would struggle to handle efficiently.
Who it targets and why it matters
OKX is expanding beyond crypto trading: with more than 150 million users globally, the company expects the next generation of customers will include autonomous agents capable of transacting on their own — an emerging "agentic economy." Star Xu, founder and CEO of OKX, said the coming decade will be defined by one‑person companies that generate significant revenue because individuals effectively gain an unlimited workforce.
"Traditional financial infrastructure was built for humans. The agentic economy needs infrastructure designed for autonomous software. That is why we built OKX.AI," Xu told TechCrunch.
The marketplace is aimed primarily at crypto developers and solo entrepreneurs who want to automate parts of their businesses with AI agents. OKX expects developers to build applications for the marketplace so other users can access AI‑powered tools without building them from scratch.
Early partners and functionality
Participants from the closed beta include CertiK, which lets AI agents assess the security of a crypto wallet or token before executing a transaction; CoinAnk, which provides live market data on a pay‑per‑query basis; and GenLayer, which is contributing dispute‑resolution infrastructure to help agents resolve contractual disagreements.
Albert Castellana, co‑founder and CEO of GenLayer Labs, said the biggest challenge is not just enabling agents to transact but helping them discover one another and resolve disputes. "What we’re building is essentially a digital court system," Castellana said.
Payments, fraud controls and rollout
By using blockchain‑based payments and stablecoins, OKX says agents can perform continuous settlement, including for micropayments. Haider Rafique, OKX’s chief marketing officer and global managing partner, told TechCrunch the company believes "agentic commerce" could become a trillion‑dollar market over the next five years, driven by micropayments and autonomous software.
OKX plans to apply the same fraud detection, compliance systems, and internally developed infrastructure that support its cryptocurrency exchange to the marketplace. The rollout will proceed in phases before wider availability.
Ecosystem, partners and strategy
OKX cites its existing reach and developer network as a competitive advantage for seeding the marketplace. In March, Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange, invested about $200 million in OKX at an approximately $25 billion valuation; OKX describes that partnership as part of efforts to modernize markets through tokenization, while OKX AI is framed as part of modernizing money for an era of autonomous software.
Developers access the marketplace via Onchain OS, OKX’s toolkit for connecting AI agents to blockchain‑based services. OKX says no OKX account is required to get started, and the platform is compatible with AI coding tools including Claude Code, Codex, Hermes, and OpenClaw.
India and regulatory context
Because the marketplace initially targets developers rather than retail users, India figures prominently in OKX’s plans — the country is now one of the largest hubs for AI and blockchain developers. OKX suspended its services in India in 2024 while navigating local regulatory requirements; Rafique said India remains a high‑priority market and that developer products such as OKX AI face fewer regulatory hurdles than spot crypto trading, potentially enabling the company to reconnect with India’s builder ecosystem sooner.
Conclusion
OKX AI aims to provide infrastructure for an agent‑centric economy: discovery of services, autonomous payments via stablecoins, and on‑chain reputations. The marketplace represents OKX’s broader fintech ambitions beyond trading and leverages the company’s existing user and developer base as it rolls out phased availability.
