OpenAI has replaced chief revenue officer Denise Dresser after nine months on the job, naming Dali Rajic — president and chief operating officer of Wiz — to lead the company’s revenue organization. Dresser served in the role for only nine months.
Part of a broader management reshuffle
The appointment is part of a wider management shake-up at OpenAI over the past month. Recent departures include Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap and Fidji Simo, who served as CEO of AGI deployment. Following Simo’s exit, Greg Brockman, OpenAI co-founder and president, has taken on a larger management role and announced Rajic’s arrival in a blog post.
Rajic’s background and related facts
Dali Rajic previously served as president and COO of Wiz, which was acquired this year by Google in a transaction valued at $32 billion — the tech giant’s largest-ever acquisition. In his announcement, Greg Brockman praised Denise Dresser’s work in guiding the revenue organization through a formative period and said Rajic will turn lessons learned into repeatable execution as OpenAI builds out systems to make AI broadly useful for people and businesses.
Business focus and financial preparations
OpenAI reports that its products reach more than one billion weekly active users and about two million businesses. Despite rapid growth and powerful models, company executives have indicated privately and publicly that some revenue targets have not been met.
The company says it filed confidentially with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) ahead of a potential initial public offering (IPO), but no timing for a public listing has been announced. This week OpenAI also purchased $7 billion worth of shares from employees in a tender offer that allowed staff to realize some equity compensation; that move may suggest a delay in a public offering.
Strategic messaging
Bloomberg News cited an earlier version of an OpenAI blog post that included language about a “relentless focus” on “measurable business impact,” language that appears to have been removed from the published post. Separately, in 2024 CEO Sam Altman has repeatedly emphasized moving the company toward enterprise deployment and scaling back technology projects and experiments that were seen as distractions from that priority.
The hiring of Dali Rajic can be seen as a strategic effort by OpenAI to strengthen execution in revenue and enterprise deployment amid ongoing leadership changes.
