Palantir Q2 beats estimates as demand for AI sovereignty boosts revenue

Palantir Technologies shares jumped sharply in premarket trading on Tuesday after the company reported second-quarter results that materially exceeded expectations. Management attributes the standout performance to growing customer demand for so-called AI 'sovereignty.'

Key figures

  • Revenue rose 93% year-over-year to $1.94 billion from roughly $1 billion a year earlier, topping the LSEG analyst consensus of $1.8 billion.
  • Corporate (commercial) revenue increased 149% to $764 million.
  • Government revenue grew 90% to $809 million.
  • For the full year, Palantir forecasts revenue between $8.15 billion and $8.158 billion, and expects corporate revenue to exceed $3.424 billion.

What's behind the growth?

Alex Karp, Palantir's co-founder and CEO, described the quarter as "not of this world." The company says the exceptional results reflect rising demand from organizations that want to integrate AI into their existing systems and data without becoming dependent on large-model developers such as OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, or Meta.

In a letter to shareholders, Palantir emphasized that organizations increasingly recognize the risks of handing over their institutional 'keys' to AI model developers. The company frames this need for control over data and model integration as AI sovereignty.

Market reaction and analyst views

Following the report, the stock was about 16% higher in premarket trading. Year-to-date the Palantir share price had fallen roughly 29% amid broader investor caution about the AI sector, but Tuesday's earnings triggered a substantial rebound.

Analysts at Citi said that demand for data privacy clearly differentiates Palantir in the market, and that the earnings release reinforces Palantir's position as one of the clear winners in enterprise AI deployments.

Why it matters

Palantir's strong revenue growth and confident full-year guidance indicate large companies and institutions are willing to invest in AI solutions that preserve operational and data control. That trend could reshape competition and supplier relationships in the AI market going forward.
