Gábor Dénes University showcases robots, AI and VR at Researchers’ Night on Sept 25

Gábor Dénes University will hold its Researchers’ Night on September 25 from 17:00 to 22:00, offering a broader and more interactive programme than in previous years. The evening includes lectures, demonstrations and hands-on stations designed to showcase the university’s research and teaching activities.

What visitors can see and try

Attendees will be able to experience drones, industrial and LEGO robots, 3D printing processes, light painting and virtual reality installations. Special playful programme elements are prepared for children, so the event aims to appeal to all age groups.

At interactive stations visitors can collect stamps; completed stamp sheets qualify for hourly prize draws where winners receive GDE gift packages.

A highlight: the university’s humanoid robot

One of the featured attractions of the evening will be Gábor Dénes University’s first-year humanoid robot, which arrived at the institution over the summer and participated in the university oath with the first-year students at the opening ceremony. The robot is expected to appear among guests during the event — walking, dancing and interacting with visitors.

Quadruped robot dogs will also be on site and may engage with attendees, for example by offering a “paw.”

Lectures: artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and teleportation

A central theme of the talks, running continuously between 17:00 and 22:00, is artificial intelligence. Presentations will cover how to use prompts effectively, questions of ethical AI use, and methods for distinguishing between content created by humans and that generated by AI.

Cybersecurity sessions will explain how to protect personal data and privacy from cyberattacks and describe how and from where cybercriminals can launch attacks.

The programme also addresses teleportation: a lecture traces the path from science fiction in literature and film to recent results in quantum physics. Through the history of remote sensing, attendees can learn how aerial and satellite imagery have evolved and which technologies enable Earth observation today.

Interactive demonstrations: sensing, digital twins and a media lab

The hands-on presentations will demonstrate what drones can do beyond basic flight — for example, how they navigate indoor courses with obstacles or how thermal cameras “see.” Visitors can see robot arms in action and explore what happens when real and virtual worlds are linked.

Participants can also learn how a building, a person or an entire environment can be turned into a digital twin, and what the future of learning might look like when educational content is explored in virtual spaces.

The media lab offers a special experience for those who want to try performing in front of real cameras and microphones: a soundproof studio lets anyone feel what it is like to be the centre of attention.

Why it matters

“We are very pleased that Researchers’ Night gives us the opportunity to show the public the exciting work and the special equipment that our researchers, instructors and students use every day. These tools and the knowledge associated with them contribute not only to understanding the present but also to preparing for future challenges,” said Dr. Kozma-Bognár Veronika, Scientific Vice-Rector of Gábor Dénes University.

The event gives visitors a closer look at modern technologies, their safety implications and practical applications, while younger attendees can encounter science and technology in a playful setting.
