Spotify announced a new feature called Personal Podcast that uses artificial intelligence to generate bespoke, fictional podcast-style conversations on demand. Rather than functioning as a search or recommendation tool, the feature creates a podcast episode when a user describes what they want to hear; Spotify's AI then produces a non-real conversation tailored to the request and the user's listening habits.
How it works and customization
Personal Podcast can produce scheduled content, enabling daily or weekly summaries on particular topics. Users can provide links and PDF documents to give the AI additional context for the episode. The final product can be refined by choosing different voices for playback.
Produced episodes are fictional and, according to Spotify, cannot be shared publicly; they are only accessible in the individual user's library.
Availability and limits
Spotify will roll out the Personal Podcast feature in June in the United States, exclusively for Spotify Premium subscribers. The service is not unlimited: users will have a set number of credits per month for creating podcasts, and additional credits must be purchased if the monthly allotment is exhausted.
Why it matters
Personal Podcast represents a new direction in personalized audio, shifting from recommending pre-existing shows to generating AI-created, private episodes tailored to a listener's interests. The launch expands Spotify's personalization options for Premium users while managing usage through credit limits and a paid top-up model.
