Google I/O, the company’s annual developer conference, opened on Tuesday, and YouTube used the first day to announce several new features focused on artificial intelligence. Among them are Ask YouTube, a video-based search and Q&A feature, and Gemini Omnit, a video-creation capability added to the YouTube Create toolkit.
Ask YouTube: ask in natural language, get video answers
Ask YouTube lets users pose questions to the platform in natural, conversational language. After analyzing a query, the system aggregates videos it deems relevant — including long-form content and Shorts — and returns the results in video form.
The feature also inserts short text summaries to help users determine whether a particular video answers their question. Users can follow up with additional, refining questions so the system can iteratively sharpen its responses.
Gemini Omnit in YouTube Create
According to Google, Gemini Omnit, integrated into YouTube Create, is designed to transform various inputs into "high-quality videos." The company did not provide detailed technical specifications in the announcement, but positioned the tool as an addition to creators’ AI-powered production options.
Availability and next steps
Ask YouTube will initially be available in the United States to YouTube Premium subscribers only. Google has not announced when the feature will launch in other regions or for non-subscribers.
