Gránit Bank tesztelte a Mastercard Agent Pay alapú AI-ügynök fizetést

Gránit Bank has successfully trialed a payment solution powered by artificial intelligence that builds on Mastercard Agent Pay, using a Platinum Mastercard. The test aimed to demonstrate that AI agents can initiate payment transactions with the customer’s authorization.

Underlying technology

According to Gránit Bank’s statement, the solution combines several security and compliance features: tokenization to protect card data, biometric authentication for customer identification, and auditable customer consent to ensure transactions can be tracked and verified.

These components are intended to allow AI agents not only to make recommendations but to execute certain financial operations autonomously while the customer retains control over the transactions.

Related developments

The bank noted that OTP Bank has previously reported a similar transaction, and industry reports indicate that Hungary saw its first live AI-agent-executed payment on 2026-05-05.

Bank leadership perspective

Jendrolovics Péter, Deputy CEO of Gránit Bank and head of the Retail Division, said that AI-based payments could, over time, enhance convenience not only for online purchases but also support agents in organizing travel, managing subscriptions, or assisting with complex financial decisions — always under the customer’s oversight. Jendrolovics has led the Retail Division since 2018 and has served as Deputy CEO since December 2021.

Why this matters

Deploying Mastercard Agent Pay and similar technologies signals a shift toward automated, personalized banking services. By combining tokenization and biometrics with auditable consent, banks aim to balance increased automation and convenience with transaction security and customer control. If expanded, these capabilities may change how everyday financial tasks are handled and reshape aspects of the customer experience and service delivery in retail banking.
