Anthropic announced on July 22, 2026 that it has released a connector for Claude that exposes the Anthropic Economic Index directly within conversations. The connector lets users ask Claude questions and receive answers grounded in the Index data.
What the Anthropic Economic Index measures
The Anthropic Economic Index tracks how AI is actually being used across the economy. Its datasets have been useful to researchers, journalists, and policymakers. Anthropic notes that the Index primarily reflects patterns of Claude usage, and therefore does not necessarily represent the labor market as a whole.
What the connector does
With the connector enabled, anyone can query the Index from any Claude conversation. Anthropic gives examples of questions users can ask, such as:
- “Which occupations use AI the most?”
- “What are the most common ways people in Colorado use Claude?”
- “What sorts of tasks do teachers use Claude for?”
- “What kinds of tasks are people automating with AI? How has that changed over the past year?”
Claude will provide answers based on the Index and can show the underlying data behind any response upon request.
How to get started
Enabling the connector takes about a minute: in claude.ai open the connectors menu, find the Anthropic Economic Index in the directory, and enable it. The connector works with any Claude model and requires no installation. Anthropic suggests beginning with broad questions and drilling into specifics, and encourages asking Claude to reveal the source data for transparency.
Limitations and data access
Anthropic emphasizes that the Index reflects Claude usage patterns rather than the full labor market. Claude will reference the source data and its limitations while assisting users. The connector is available today on claude.ai, and the full datasets remain freely available on Anthropic’s website.
Intended users
The connector is aimed at researchers, journalists, policymakers and any individual curious about how AI fits into their industry or daily work. The goal is to make Index data directly accessible and explorable within Claude conversations.
