Apple unveiled iOS 27 in early June, highlighting new capabilities centered on Apple Intelligence and an enhanced Siri. The company had previously indicated that some AI features would require an iCloud+ subscription; Apple has now clarified that certain Home app features will be tied to the 2 TB iCloud+ tier. In Hungary, that 2 TB plan currently costs 4,500 forints per month.
What the new Home features do
According to MacRumors, the Home app on iOS/iPadOS/macOS 27 will gain these capabilities:
- Generating written summaries of motion alerts from HomeKit-compatible security cameras.
- Combining footage from multiple cameras to illustrate a single activity or event.
- Supporting natural-language searches, so users can search for objects or appearances — for example searching for a “cat,” or a specific name such as Cirmi or the neighbor Kormi — across recorded footage.
These features are designed to help users more quickly and clearly understand events captured by their home cameras, for example when a package was delivered or when someone arrived holding a fruit bowl.
Changes to iCloud requirements
Previously, HomeKit cameras required different iCloud storage levels: 50 GB served as the entry level for a single camera, 200 GB covered up to five cameras, and the 2 TB plan allowed unlimited cameras. Apple now says the new Apple Intelligence features in the Home app will require the 2 TB subscription as the entry point for anyone who wishes to use them.
Availability in the European Union
Apple also noted that most of the new Apple Intelligence features will not be available in the EU at launch, and the company did not specify when or under what conditions that might change.
