Arab researchers are developing an artificial intelligence–based model that can indicate, before sitting behind the wheel, the likelihood that a driver will cause an accident. The development stems from the recognition that traditional driver assessment methods rely mainly on experience and background checks and do not provide an accurate picture of who poses a higher risk in traffic. The new model can analyze various data, such as driving history, telematics information, demographic characteristics, and environmental conditions, to provide a risk estimate before driving begins. The approach could be important for accident prevention because it would enable targeted interventions, training, or insurance incentives for high-risk drivers. At the same time, ethical and legal issues arise, such as privacy concerns, biases in predictive models, and the consequences of false alarms.
