Anthropic announced on October 7, 2025 that it will expand its global operations to India by opening an office in Bengaluru in early 2026. The company said the Bengaluru location will be its second Asia Pacific office after Tokyo, which is scheduled to open in the coming months.
Why the expansion matters
According to the company, the move is intended to support India’s rapidly growing AI ecosystem and to respond to rising international demand for its Claude models. Dario Amodei, Anthropic’s CEO and co-founder, is visiting India during the announcement to meet public officials and enterprise partners as the company deepens its commitment to the region.
On the announcement Amodei said, “India is compelling because of the scale of its technical talent and the commitment from the Indian government to ensure the benefits of artificial intelligence reach all areas of society, not just concentrated pockets. There is deep alignment between the challenges India is tackling and our mission as a company, from deploying AI across diverse languages and contexts, to building frameworks for responsible governance. India's AI ecosystem will play a central role in how AI develops globally and democratically, and we’re looking forward to working with organizations in India to pave a path for how beneficial AI can be scaled in a way that serves everyone.”
Focus areas and partnerships
Anthropic said its India activities will prioritize deploying AI for social impact in sectors such as education, healthcare and agriculture. The company also plans strategic partnerships with Indian enterprises, nonprofits and startups, and intends the Bengaluru office to support India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem as it develops new companies.

Claude usage in India and technical trends
Citing its Economic Index Report, Anthropic said India ranks second globally in consumer usage of Claude, behind only the United States. The company noted that a disproportionately large share of Claude usage in India is for technical and programming-related tasks, such as mobile UI development and web app debugging.
Large Indian enterprises like CRED reportedly rely on Claude for their most critical coding work. Anthropic also highlighted rapid global adoption of Claude Code: usage grew over 10x in the first three months after its May launch, and the company said this tool could substantially accelerate growth in India’s export-focused IT services industry.
Indic language capabilities and accessibility
The company said its expansion aligns with continued investment in Claude’s Indic language capabilities. Building robust support for the languages and contexts important to Indian users will be a cornerstone of its regional work.
Anthropic stated that Claude already supports major Indic languages and will launch enhanced performance in Hindi and nearly a dozen additional languages, including Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Punjabi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, and Urdu. The company expects these extended capabilities to strengthen public sector adoption and broaden access to AI across India.
