Bosch presented its latest artificial intelligence (AI) innovations at the international AI Symposium held in Budapest on May 21–22, 2026. The company focused on AI applications for autonomous vehicles and industrial automation, emphasizing solutions that are suitable for series production.

AI for autonomous decision-making in vehicles

According to Bosch, AI creates real value in the automotive sector when research results are turned into reliable, mass-producible technologies. Bosch's advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) enable vehicles to sense and interpret their surroundings, recognize traffic situations, make autonomous decisions and respond to road conditions in real time. Dr. Szászi István, head of the Bosch Group in Hungary and the Adria region, highlighted the company’s long-term efforts to apply AI technologies safely and effectively in transport and industry. Bosch has filed more than 2000 AI-related patents worldwide and plans to invest over 2.5 billion euros in this field by 2027.

In-cabin monitoring: regulations and technological responses

International studies indicate about one in ten traffic accidents can be traced to driver fatigue, loss of attention or distraction. In response, the European Union's General Safety Regulation (GSR) made fatigue monitoring systems mandatory for new cars from 2024; from July 2026, systems for continuous monitoring of driver attention will also be required.

Bosch's AI-based interior solutions address these requirements. Dr. Oliver Lange, head of interior sensing at Bosch Research, said vehicle safety increasingly depends not only on monitoring the external environment but also on knowing what happens inside the cabin. New regulations, NCAP ratings and rising consumer expectations have accelerated the development of in-cabin sensing technologies that provide smarter protection for occupants and support further advances in automated driving.

Detecting health emergencies and enabling intervention

Bosch is developing multiple AI-powered interior sensors that process camera and radar data in real time and feed it to vehicle safety systems. These systems can alert or, if necessary, intervene in situations where driver attention drops or the driver becomes unwell. Monitoring vital signs — such as heart rate and respiration — allows the system to detect dangerous states early and, if required, safely stop the vehicle.

Passenger safety: posture detection, airbags and unattended children

Multi-camera and radar-based cabin systems can detect events relevant to occupant safety. For example, 3D posture detection recognizes positions that increase injury risk in a crash, such as a person placing a foot on the dashboard or sitting too close to an airbag. The system can estimate occupants’ body shape to optimize airbag deployment and monitor whether the driver keeps their hands on the wheel. Sensitive sensors can also detect the presence of children left in a vehicle even when they are barely visible from outside.

AI in manufacturing and development

Bosch applies AI not only in products but also across manufacturing processes, aiming to increase precision and efficiency at every stage of development and production. At the AI Symposium, Bosch experts presented practical examples including machine learning for the development of automotive MEMS sensors and automated soldering quality inspection. AI also helps uncover hard-to-identify issues — such as rattles, vibrations or friction in specific components — allowing these faults to be detected before mass production.

GraphRAG: an AI knowledge hub for large unstructured data

The GraphRAG technology, a joint development of Bosch and HUN-REN SZTAKI, further supports development and manufacturing efficiency. GraphRAG is an AI-based corporate knowledge center capable of rapidly processing and interpreting large volumes of unstructured data — for example, PDFs and reports. The system speeds up the work of engineers and researchers and eases onboarding of new staff into ongoing projects.
