OpenAI announced that ChatGPT Ads is rolling out today to seven additional markets in Asia: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Taiwan. The launch follows earlier availability in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and India.
How advertisers can access the product
Advertisers can buy ChatGPT Ads through the OpenAI Ads Solutions team, through agency partners including dentsu, Havas Media, Omnicom Media, Publicis Groupe and WPP, and via technology partners. Eligible businesses can also use a self-service option through Ads Manager.
Who will see the ads
OpenAI says ads will be shown only to users on the Free and Go plans; subscribers to Pro, Plus and Enterprise plans will continue to have an ad-free experience. The company frames ads as a way to surface relevant products and services at moments when people are exploring options—such as planning travel, selecting business software, or furnishing a home.
Privacy and transparency
Protecting user trust is central to OpenAI’s advertising approach. The company states that conversations remain private from advertisers and that customer data will not be sold. Ads in ChatGPT are clearly labeled and kept separate from the assistant’s answers, and advertising does not influence the responses ChatGPT provides. Users can control ad personalization and choose paid, ad-free plans if they prefer not to see ads.
Performance so far and future roadmap
OpenAI reported at the end of August that ChatGPT Ads reached an annualized revenue run rate of $1 billion in under 200 days after launch. Tens of thousands of advertisers are now running campaigns on the platform, with many reaching audiences across multiple countries.
This expansion brings that opportunity to more businesses across Southeast Asia and Taiwan. OpenAI says it will continue to enter new markets over the coming months and invest in new ad formats, optimization tools and measurement solutions while maintaining focus on broadening access to AI, protecting trust in ChatGPT, delivering useful ads, and helping businesses meet their goals.
