Cursor announced a new iOS mobile application that lets users prompt and interact with its autonomous coding agents directly from their phones. The company made the announcement on Monday, positioning the app as an extension of the Cursor 2.0 changes unveiled in October, which shifted the service toward independent code-writing agents.
With the mobile client, users can spin up new coding agents or continue conversations with agents that were initiated from the desktop client. Cursor’s move to mobile follows similar launches from Anthropic and OpenAI, both of which provide ways to work with their coding tools on mobile devices.
The development reflects a broader industry shift: AI-based coding tools are increasingly moving away from centering on manually written code and toward the oversight of agent-driven code generation. Because agents can operate without direct access to large codebases, some developers are abandoning multi-monitor desktop setups in favor of phones that enable continuous interaction with remote agents.
Boris Cherny, head of Claude Code at Anthropic, recently said in a talk that he has almost entirely switched to mobile AI coding: “Most of my coding now is on my phone,” Cherny said. “I would have said ‘you’re crazy’ if you told me that six months ago, but yeah, here we are.”
Cursor noted the timing of the release against coverage of a $60 billion SpaceX acquisition, saying it would not let that slow its product development. The iOS app demonstrates Cursor’s intent to link desktop and mobile experiences for users who prefer to start and manage coding agents from a smartphone.
