DeepSeek may pursue IPO amid investor appetite for low-cost Chinese AI

According to reports, DeepSeek could file for an initial public offering as soon as this year, aiming to capitalize on investor appetite for low-cost Chinese artificial intelligence technologies. The company is also said to be weighing another fundraising round, just weeks after completing its first financing round that valued DeepSeek at $52 billion.

Other Chinese AI labs have recently come to market, including Zhipu AI and MiniMax, while U.S. competitors such as OpenAI and Anthropic are reportedly planning similar moves.

Analysts note that the Chinese AI sector’s focus may be shifting beyond the initial surge around low-cost models. Goldman Sachs analysts wrote that the industry is moving from a "DeepSeek moment" to a "Zhipu moment," pointing to Zhipu AI’s emphasis on building artificial general intelligence (AGI) rather than pursuing short-term monetization from AI applications.

DeepSeek’s potential IPO and additional funding efforts coincide with a broader rebalancing among investors and companies in the AI space. The company’s breakthrough last year — an inexpensive, effective open-source model — reshaped parts of the industry, and its next strategic steps will influence competitive dynamics and investment priorities both in China and internationally.
