Google announced that the Gemini app’s personalized image-generation feature, powered by the Nano Banana model, is now freely available to eligible users in the United States. The company made the announcement on Monday; until now the capability had been restricted to Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers.
How the personalized image feature works
Gemini’s Personal Intelligence feature, which Google said in April would be augmented with Nano Banana-powered image generation, lets the system produce images that reflect a user’s individual tastes without requiring detailed prompts. Instead of spelling out specific items — for example, "Create an illustration of me and my favorite things, such as coffee and baking" — a user can simply ask, "Create an illustration of me and my favorite things."
To do this, Gemini draws on data from your Google account connections, including Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Search. The app can also pull actual photos of you from Google Photos, so manual photo uploads are not required.
Access controls and privacy
Personal Intelligence is an opt-in feature: users choose which apps Gemini can access. Once enabled, the feature is set as the default for each prompt, but it can be turned off with a new toggle in the Tools menu.
Rollout and other Gemini updates
Google previously made Personal Intelligence widely available to U.S. users in March and has since expanded the functionality to users in India and Japan. The company also recently announced additional updates for the Gemini app, including a new "Daily Brief" feature, a redesigned interface, access to an AI video model called Gemini Omni, and a personal AI agent named Gemini Spark.
Usage scale
Google notes that the Gemini chatbot surpassed 750 million monthly active users earlier this year, underscoring its significant presence in the AI landscape.
