New York-based General Intuition is in talks to raise a new funding round at a $6 billion pre‑money valuation, according to sources familiar with the matter. Potential new investors named in the discussions include Valor Equity Partners, Point72 Ventures and Seven Seven Six, while existing backers Khosla Ventures and General Catalyst are also expected to participate.
Sources say the round is still being finalized but is oversubscribed, with continued investor interest. The startup plans to use the proceeds to further improve its general foundation model, with a particular focus on robotic embodiments. To support that work, General Intuition intends to increase spending on compute infrastructure — it has an existing partnership with CoreWeave — and to hire additional talent.
This reported raise comes just weeks after General Intuition closed a $320 million funding round at a $2.3 billion valuation. The latest reports align with earlier coverage positioning the company as a leading startup working on AI that operates in the physical world.
Origins and technical approach
General Intuition was spun out by CEO Pim de Witte from his video game clip‑sharing platform Medal in "last October." The company’s initial dataset draws on Medal’s hundreds of millions of hours of gameplay and so‑called "action labels," which log what buttons players pressed and when. De Witte has publicly highlighted how those action labels feed into the firm’s large action models; an early look at this approach was referenced in coverage and in a Pim de Witte tweet dated August 21, 2026.
Investor Vinod Khosla recently told TechCrunch that he believes action labels will be important for what he called the "emergence of intuition": the capacity of a model to generalize to tasks it was not explicitly trained on.
Investors and significance
Valor Equity Partners, mentioned as a potential new investor, is known for backing SpaceX; if Valor confirms participation, sources say it would be the fund’s first investment in an AI lab since SpaceX. TechCrunch has reached out to Valor for confirmation.
General Intuition’s stated priorities for the fresh capital are advancing its general models toward robotic applications, expanding compute resources, and recruiting more researchers and engineers.
Status: developing
The financing round has not been finalized and details may change as discussions continue. Sources describe the situation as evolving and further updates could follow as investors confirm or the company announces terms.
