Google announced on Wednesday that Google Photos is gaining a new “Video Remix” feature capable of editing and transforming videos in seconds. The tool is powered by Gemini Omni, Google’s recently released model that the company says can “create anything from any input.”
What Video Remix does
Video Remix is available from the Create tab in Google Photos and offers automated transformations such as:
- cinematic relighting to brighten a dark clip,
- background replacement for clips with plain backdrops,
- artistic styles like watercolor, raw sketchbook, and oil painting effects.
Google’s examples include making a clip look as if it were shot in a greenhouse, applying a morning glow, or rendering a video with a watercolor appearance. In its blog post, Google wrote: “Creating beautiful video clips shouldn’t require professional skills or hours of editing. Now, with Video Remix in Google Photos, you can transform ordinary videos into share-worthy moments in just a few taps.”
Availability and eligibility
According to Google, Video Remix begins rolling out on the day of the announcement to eligible subscribers. The feature will be available to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers in the United States, Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea, and Turkey.

The Video Remix rollout is part of Google’s broader effort to integrate generative AI capabilities into its consumer apps and to offer easier, in-app editing options so users rely less on dedicated external software and remain within Google’s ecosystem.
