Tanács Zoltán, Hungary’s Minister for Science and Technology, said in a Facebook video that the Indian–Hungarian mixed committee will meet again in the first half of 2027 to identify research, scientific and corporate cooperation opportunities.
Tanács held talks with Jitin Prasada, India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry. He pointed out that with nearly 1.5 billion inhabitants, India is one of the world’s largest markets and therefore an important market for Hungary.
Priority sectors and areas of cooperation
The announcement states the committee will focus primarily on digitalization and technological innovation. In addition, Tanács indicated that Hungarian companies could find opportunities in energy, food processing and agriculture.
Preparatory stage, no contracts announced
The minister’s statement refers to preparatory work for cooperation. The video did not mention any concrete corporate contracts, investment amounts or financing frameworks.
Link to wider EU–India cooperation
Strengthening technological ties with India is also on the EU agenda. In July, the European Union and India reached agreements on research, technology and industrial cooperation, including plans for a startup partnership, the creation of joint innovation centres, and stepped‑up collaboration on semiconductors, artificial intelligence and 6G technologies.
Why this matters
India’s large domestic market and expanded bilateral research and industrial cooperation could open export and joint R&D opportunities for Hungarian firms. The upcoming mixed committee meeting is expected to map specific research and startup partnerships in more detail.
