AI drastically accelerates software development, but firms must control costs, says Kun Szabolcs

Kun Szabolcs, co‑founder of Arenim Technologies, says AI has sharply shortened development times—projects planned for four months can now be completed in about a month with far fewer developers.

Kun Szabolcs began developing his first chat software while on a scholarship in Berlin in the 2000s, motivated by the high cost of calling home. In 2010 he and his partner Megyeri Attila founded a company under the name Minerva‑Soft Kft.; this later became Arenim Technologies Kft.

Arenim Technologies provides cloud‑based call center services to mid‑sized and large enterprises. The company’s telecommunications software division was sold last year to Constellation Group, which the discussion described as one of the world’s ten largest software companies. Arenim retained its security software business and now also works on AI‑assisted software development.

According to Kun Szabolcs, the sector is undergoing previously unimaginable change that has left many scrambling to keep up. He said AI has substantially accelerated development cycles: projects that were originally planned to take four months and require many developers can now be completed in about one month with far fewer people.

However, speed brings a need for cost control. Kun noted that current AI tools are often offered at what he called “introductory” or feeder prices, but warned this should not reduce financial discipline — companies must ensure the use of AI does not “grind through” their budgets.

In a sponsor segment of the program, Gazsi Attila, deputy president of the Vállalkozók és Munkáltatók Országos Szövetsége (VOSZ), discussed how businesses can apply artificial intelligence beyond software development in other areas of their operations.

The conversation aired on the Mérlegen podcast; the program’s sponsor is Raiffeisen Bank. The podcast is available on platforms including SoundCloud, Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

Key takeaways

  • AI is increasing development efficiency, but cost savings are not automatic — active budget control is required.
  • Attractive introductory pricing for AI tools can mask future costs and risks.
  • Businesses should explore AI applications beyond IT projects, as noted by Gazsi Attila.
