Lenovo’s revenue and profit surge driven by AI-focused business

Hong Kong–based Lenovo reported better‑than‑expected results for the quarter ended in March: group revenue rose to $21.6 billion, a 27 percent year‑on‑year increase, while net profit climbed nearly sixfold to $521 million. The company said its annual results reached record levels overall.

Lenovo attributed the bulk of the growth to its artificial intelligence (AI) businesses. Revenue from AI‑related products and services increased by 84 percent during the period and now represent more than one third of group revenue. This category includes personal computers and smartphones equipped with neural processing units (NPUs), GPU‑based servers, and associated services.

Strategy and market position

In a statement, Chairman and CEO Jang Jüan‑csing set a target for Lenovo to become a $100 billion‑revenue company within two years. The firm’s so‑called "hybrid AI strategy" combines on‑device personal AI solutions with enterprise AI offerings aimed at helping customers make data‑driven decisions and create value.

Lenovo also maintained a leading position in the global PC market, with a 24.4 percent market share in the fourth quarter. Following the upbeat results, Lenovo’s shares jumped sharply on Friday and closed up 17.4 percent.

Why this matters

The results indicate that Lenovo has been able to reposition itself for the AI era: growth is being driven not only by PC sales but also by AI‑related device and server revenue and the services tied to them. The company’s ambitious revenue target and the rapid expansion of its AI segment could have broader implications for competition in the technology sector and for demand along hardware and data‑center supply chains.
