A Europion survey finds that most currently employed Hungarians do not feel their jobs are likely to be replaced by artificial intelligence (AI). Among respondents, 49% said they do not feel their job is replaceable at all, and a further 33% said they rather do not. Only 18% felt that their job could be replaced by AI either to some extent or completely.
Differences by age and type of work
Confidence is particularly high among those over 50 and among workers in manual roles: in these two segments, 86–87% of respondents reported they do not feel their job is at risk, according to Europion. By contrast, knowledge workers and people in managerial positions are more pessimistic — in these groups more than one in four feel their role could be replaced.
Views on the time horizon for possible job disappearance reflect similar splits: 66% of all respondents believe their job is not threatened at all by AI, while another 16% think such change could occur only after more than five years. The 16–29 age group is more worried: only 53% in that cohort said their job will not disappear because of AI.
Interestingly, managers are among the most concerned — or perhaps they have clearer visibility on AI-related risks. Among managers, 54% expect their job could disappear due to AI, and 23% of them believe this could happen within one to two years. Among non-managerial employees, only 31% anticipate this outcome, and 16% expect it only after more than five years. By type of work, 44% of knowledge workers think their job could disappear, while only 32% of manual workers share that view.
Sectoral picture: public sector workers feel safest
By sector, employees in the public and public service sectors feel the most secure: only 16% of them feel their job is threatened by AI.
AI usage: frequency and demographic patterns
The research indicates that Hungarians generally view AI not as an existential threat but as an important, occasional tool. Overall, 42% of workers use AI at work to some extent. Of these, 14% use it daily and a further 11% use it weekly.
Age differences are pronounced: 65% of 16–29-year-olds use AI at work to some degree, whereas among those over 50 the rate is roughly 30%.
By sector, AI use is most widespread in high value-added service sectors — for example IT, scientific activities and communications — where 65% use AI at least to some extent, and nearly one-third use it daily. In low value-added service sectors (such as hospitality and logistics) adoption is much lower, at around 30%. Public and public service workers report 41% AI use, while industry and agriculture workers report 51%, placing them in the middle.
Perceived productivity gains
Europion notes that Hungarian workers are divided over how much AI improves work efficiency. Only 17% believe AI causes a "significant" productivity increase; the plurality say it yields a "small" increase (44%), while 35% report a "moderate" effect.
Geographic differences appear as well: 27% of those working in the capital report significant efficiency gains from AI, compared with only 9% among residents of villages. Sectorally, workers in industry, agriculture and low value-added services are less satisfied than average: in these sectors only 12–13% report significant efficiency improvements due to AI.
A further paradox is that although AI adoption is lowest among older workers, they are the most satisfied users: 23% of those over 60 attribute significant efficiency gains to AI, compared with 15–17% in younger age groups.
Main workplace uses of AI
When asked how they use AI at work, respondents ranked information gathering first: half use AI for that purpose. Other uses lag behind: generating textual content (36%), translation (34%), document editing (25%), and emails and other communications (24%).
High value-added sectors not only use AI more frequently but also for a wider range of functions: in these sectors, 63% use AI for information gathering, 46% for translation, and 37% for emails or communications.
Summary
Europion's survey indicates that the majority of Hungarian workers currently do not feel their occupations are under direct threat from AI. Nevertheless, there are clear age-, role- and sector-specific differences in both concern and actual AI use: younger workers and those in knowledge or managerial roles are more likely to anticipate change, while AI adoption and functional use are concentrated in high value-added service sectors.
