Mastercard agentic payment: AI agent used an OTP Bank Mastercard to pay a deposit on Priceless

Mastercard demonstrated an end‑to‑end transaction in which an AI agent, using Agent Pay technology, booked and paid a deposit for a coffee tasting on the Mastercard Priceless platform on behalf of a user holding an OTP Bank‑issued Mastercard.

Mastercard has showcased how an artificial intelligence agent can securely execute a purchase on behalf of a consumer using its Agent Pay technology. According to the company, the transaction illustrated how AI agents can carry out purchases based on user consent in a verifiable, controlled manner.

In the use case, the AI agent proposed, reserved, and paid a deposit for a coffee tasting on behalf of a user who holds an OTP Bank‑issued Mastercard. The booking was made on the Mastercard Priceless experience platform at priceless.com, and the purchase was performed by the AI agent through its connection to the Priceless platform.

Mastercard said the end‑to‑end transaction was supported by the PayOS system. During the process, agentic tokens were used — digital identifiers that authorize the AI agent to act on the user’s behalf. The tokens protected sensitive data and enabled strong customer authentication throughout the transaction.

According to Mastercard, the demonstration shows that AI agents can, with user authorization and appropriate security controls, execute transactions for consumers in a safe and auditable way.
