Meta has announced a new series of smart glasses developed in partnership with EssilorLuxottica. According to the companies, the product family notably does not include any visual display: the devices contain no screen at all.
Hardware and basic features
The Meta Glasses are equipped with a camera, built-in speakers and a microphone, enabling audio interactions and environmental sensing. Each pair includes a dedicated button that by default launches Meta AI; that button can be reassigned to other functions.
Meta states the glasses deliver more than eight hours of battery life on a single charge, and with the accompanying portable charging case the runtime can be extended to 40 hours.
Models and design
The lineup will be available in several appearances and sizes, including Meta Fury, Adventurer and Kylie models. The Kylie frame was designed in collaboration with American model Kylie Jenner, as reported by TechCrunch.
Software capabilities and services
Meta AI running on the glasses is said to answer a wide range of questions, from sports events to restaurant recommendations. Using the camera and microphone, the device can interpret its surroundings and assist with managing daily tasks. Meta also plans to add pedestrian navigation that guides walkers step-by-step, and the glasses will offer live translation in multiple languages.
Price and distribution
The Meta Glasses carry a starting price of $300, roughly 95,000 forints, and will be sold through Meta’s online store.
Why this matters
By releasing a display-free, lower-priced eyewear option, Meta is diverging from earlier, branded collaborations like Ray-Ban and Oakley that featured visual displays. The combination of price and AI-driven features suggests the company aims to broaden adoption of wearable AI devices among a wider audience.
