Mistral launches Vibe: a single agent and licence for work and coding

Mistral has introduced Vibe, an AI agent intended to take on long-running, multi-step tasks across both general work and software development, all under a single licence. Vibe can catch up across your inbox and calendar, perform deep research, draft deliverables, and carry coding tasks from initial request to a merged change across the web app, your editor, and your terminal.

Key features

  • Work Mode for complex, multi-stage tasks: Vibe outlines a plan, requests your approval, and then executes across your connected tools. Every tool call and reasoning step is visible and expandable while it runs.

  • Code Mode for remote coding sessions: Users can connect to GitHub, start sessions, and drive them to a pull request. Sessions run in an isolated sandbox, persist while the user's machine is off, and can run in parallel.

  • VS Code extension: Vibe now operates across your entire project inside Visual Studio Code. It reads files, edits them, and runs commands in a side panel. Open files automatically attach to the session, and @ mentions pull in context from anywhere in your repository.

  • CLI updates: Skills are surfaced as / commands. Permissions are scoped to the session. The /teleport command moves a live session between your terminal and the cloud while preserving history and approvals.

Why it matters

Vibe consolidates task automation and development workflows into a single agent and licence, which can simplify tooling and administration for organizations. The visibility of each execution step and the persistence of sessions may be particularly useful for long-lived, multi-step work and remote development collaboration.

Summary

Mistral’s Vibe offers a unified agent with Work Mode and Code Mode, a VS Code extension, and enhanced CLI capabilities aimed at handling complex workflows and coding sessions while managing permissions and session persistence.
