CJ Desai, who had served as CEO of MongoDB for less than a year, is leaving the database-software company to join Meta Platforms, CNBC reports. At Meta he will become chief enterprise platform officer and lead the newly created Meta Enterprise Platform, reporting directly to Mark Zuckerberg.
Meta said the new business unit will target enterprise customers and developers, and initially offer a full technology toolkit. The company specifically named the Muse agent, the Meta Business Agent, the Muse API and Muse Code as part of that initial offering.
Following the announcement, MongoDB’s shares fell about 17 percent in premarket trading. In response to Desai’s departure, MongoDB’s board appointed Dev Ittycheria as interim president and CEO. Ittycheria previously led the company for 11 years before handing the role to Desai in November 2025.
Desai’s exit after under a year as CEO, combined with Meta’s launch of a new enterprise platform, appears to have driven the sharp decline in MongoDB’s stock price.
Meta describes the platform’s tools as intended to support enterprise solutions and developer integrations, helping businesses and developers scale more effectively. CNBC reported Desai’s move to Meta.
