The village of Nagyoroszi in Nógrád County has launched a freely accessible, AI-powered customer service assistant that is available on the municipality’s official website. The settlement, with more than 1,800 residents, put the chat-based system into operation while it is still in a training phase; for now it responds only using information published on the site.
Background and implementation
The local government joined the Munipolis smart communication platform in 2023. The AI customer service was developed as an extension of that platform. The project is led by Dávid Ádám, deputy mayor of Nagyoroszi, who explained that the system aims to handle frequently asked questions and thereby reduce the workload of municipal staff.
Early usage statistics and feedback
The municipality’s website receives about 2,000 visits per month. Since the service launched, roughly 70 questions have been submitted to the AI, of which only two remained unanswered. Initial user feedback has been positive, and most queries have concerned information already available on the website.
Planned expansions
If the pilot phase proves successful, the municipality plans to expand the service to include phone and voice access, multilingual support, and a broader information base. Czinger Erik, head of Munipolis in Hungary, noted that the range of information the AI can handle is virtually unlimited, and the system can recognize its own limits and forward inquiries to the appropriate municipal official when necessary.
Wider context
According to the developers, more than one hundred municipalities in the Czech Republic and other countries were already using AI-based customer service in 2025, and that number is expected to grow severalfold by 2027. They expect similarly rapid adoption in Hungary given comparable operational and market conditions, with the greatest benefits likely in larger cities that receive hundreds or thousands of inquiries daily across channels and languages.
