Non-sofic groups and exponential improvements in high-dimensional sphere packing

Several research groups have published new results spanning sphere packing, coding theory, group theory, quantum complexity, lattice cryptography and extremal combinatorics. Highlighted results include a proof of the existence of non-sofic groups and an exponential improvement in high-dimensional sphere packing bounds, which may affect coding procedures, quantum algorithms and lattice-based cryptography.
