Nokia feature phones return with dedicated AI button, subscription after 180 days

HMD Global is launching several new Nokia-branded feature phones — Nokia 200 4G, 210 4G, 215 4G 2nd Edition and 235 4G 2nd Edition — that include built-in AI functionality powered by Sikey and a physical AI button.

HMD Global is extending the Nokia brand on feature phones with four newly announced models that include integrated artificial intelligence. The move pairs familiar physical key designs with AI functionality.

The announced models are the Nokia 200 4G, Nokia 210 4G, Nokia 215 4G 2nd Edition and Nokia 235 4G 2nd Edition. All four will run AI features powered by Sikey and include a large, dedicated AI button on the device.

AI capabilities and access model

According to HMD, the Sikey-powered AI can answer simple user questions and can be used to control some phone functions. The AI service is not permanently free: HMD says the first 180 days of access will be complimentary, after which continued use of the dedicated AI features requires a subscription.

Hardware and software details

The phones run the S30+ operating system and are fitted with 1450 mAh batteries. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 5.0, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and USB-C for charging. Each device has a front-facing VGA camera intended for use with HMD’s Xpress chat-based video calling — given the VGA sensor, image quality is likely to be limited.

The models also include an FM radio, a feature more common in older, simpler handsets.

Missing information: price and availability

HMD has not yet published pricing, release dates or which markets will receive the new devices first. Those details are expected to be disclosed in later communications.

Why this matters

The announcement shows that AI is beginning to appear even on basic feature phones, and that subscription-based access to AI features may be extended to lower-end devices. How consumers respond to AI on simple hardware and the subscription requirement will be important factors in determining these products’ commercial success.
