Presentation-startup NextSlide announced it is joining OpenAI; members of the startup’s team will now work on ChatGPT.
On the NextSlide website, founder Ahmed Beshry posted that the company’s product aimed to transform prompts, notes, documents, or research into a polished, editable presentation. Beshry said the ultimate objective was to make visual communication more accessible and enable more people to express their ideas clearly.
By integrating with OpenAI, the NextSlide team intends to continue that mission inside the larger organization: according to Beshry, they will keep building AI products that help people create, communicate, and turn their ideas into meaningful work.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. In a LinkedIn note, Beshry wrote that the public announcement is “a few months late,” because the acquisition occurred “earlier this year.”
Beshry was previously a co-founder of Caper AI, a smart cart and cashier-less checkout startup that Instacart acquired in 2021.
Why it matters
NextSlide’s expertise in generating presentation and visual content could complement OpenAI’s language models and speed up user-facing features for content creation. Although the financial details remain private, the move underscores ongoing consolidation and specialization as AI firms incorporate domain-specific tooling into large model platforms.
